Key rules
- Everyone takes a vision test. If you pass it wearing glasses or contact lenses, your license will carry a corrective lenses restriction. p. 5
- The knowledge test is multiple choice. You get three attempts; after that you must apply again. p. 5
- A minor who fails the knowledge test must wait seven days to retake it, not counting the day of the failure. p. 5
- No handbook, phone or other aids are allowed during the knowledge test. p. 5
- For the drive test, bring your permit, a licensed driver aged 18 or older (25 for minors) unless you already have a license, a vehicle that is safe to drive, and valid proof of insurance and registration. p. 6
- Before the drive, the examiner checks the car: a driver window that opens, a clear windshield, two rearview mirrors (one on the left), working brake lights, horn, parking brake, wipers and seat belts. If something fails, the test is rescheduled. p. 6
- A minor who fails the drive test must wait 14 days to retake it. p. 6
- Driver assistance features such as automated parallel parking, lane departure and adaptive cruise control cannot be used on the drive test. Backup cameras and blind spot monitors are allowed, but they do not replace looking for yourself. p. 7
- Only the examiner rides with you. An interpreter can help during the vehicle check before the drive, but not during the drive itself. p. 7
