Key rules
- Keep at least four seconds of following distance, and more in rain, at night or behind motorcycles. p. 61
- At 50 mph your total stopping distance is at least 268 feet; doubling your speed makes braking distance four times longer. p. 60
- At an all-way stop the first to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, yield to the driver on your right. p. 62
- Roundabouts run counter-clockwise; yield to traffic already inside, and don't stop or change lanes in them. p. 63
- Move Over Law: leave the lane next to stopped emergency, tow, utility or disabled vehicles, or slow to 20 mph below the limit. p. 65
- Park on the right, within 12 inches of the curb, set the parking brake and take the keys with you. p. 65
- Do not park within 15 feet of a hydrant, 20 feet of an intersection, 30 feet of a stop sign or signal, or 50 feet of a railroad crossing. p. 66
- Do not pass on hills or curves without 500 feet of visibility, within 100 feet of an intersection or bridge, or across solid lines. p. 67
- Standard limits: 20 mph in school zones, 30 mph in business and residential areas, 55 mph on streets and highways and 70 mph on limited access highways. p. 68
- Signal at least 100 feet before turning, and never use your signal to tell drivers behind you to pass. p. 69
